Objective:

Especially in World War I, arsenical chemical munitions (containing Lewisite, Adamsite, Clark 1 or Clark 2) were used. Some munitions fired in battle penetrated the ground without exploding. Munitions on old military bases sometimes became shallowly buried, on purpose or by negligence. Although some of them leaked into the soil, many are recovered in our time and must be destroyed. There is however a dearth of information to guide the safe destruction of them. This is a problem for many countries in Europe. Profs. Bunnett and Mikolajczyk will co-chair a NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) considerably devoted to dealing with arsenical munitions. It will be held in Lodz, Poland: March 17-19, 1996
