Project Details:

Education in Chemistry and the Environment

Project No.:025-46-96
Start date:1996-01-01
End date:1999-12-31
Division:Committee on Chemistry Education
Objective:

Creation of the new IUPAC Division indicates the international significance of this field. In developed countries environmental awareness is strong in all sectors of the population. However, most people lack correct knowledge and rely on informal sources of information. This often leads to negative attitudes towards science. In developing countries awareness is weaker and there may be tensions between urgent, local needs and the global environmental concerns of wealthier populations. In the long term only formal education can provide the sound knowledge required in both cases. CTC members have access to educational resources on chemistry and the environment. This will be collected and disseminated. Workshops will be organised on every continent and active participation will be sought from members of the new Division. New publications and teaching resources will be generated where required. Participation by local teachers and lecturers in this will be an objective.

Description:
No description available.
Progress:

A package for teaching selected aspects of environmental chemistry has been designed and field-tested through a series of hands-n workshops.
