The purpose of this project was to classify phase diagrams of binary fluid mixtures with regard to the topology of their critical curves and three-phase curves.

A new nomenclature for the phase diagram classes has been developedwhich is applicable to the previously known classes as well as tothe recently discovered classes. The new names have the advantageof being both systematic and descriptive. A technical report was publishedin Pure Appl.Chem.,Vol. 70, 2233-2257, 1998.
