The possible waste streams in a complex plating shop are numerous and difficult to treat. Each stream needs its own recycling process, after which the reduced residual contamination is treated in a central waste-water plant. All of these recycling processes are based on electrochemical and/or physical techniques, which can be divided into processes with metal recovery and techniques with the return of concentrated process solutions to the front end of the process. Each technology will generate some form of waste with its own disposal problems and requirements. To assist the metal finisher to find the appropriate waste treatment system for a particular situation, it is important to evaluate the technologies with their benefits and their application possibilities.
- Draft is being finalized for internal evaluation by the Comimission (summer 2000)
