Project Details:

Compendium of targets of the top 100 commercially important drugs

Project No.:2004-025-1-700
Start date:2004-09-01
End date:2007-01-24
Division:Chemistry and Human Health Division
Objective:

To provide a compendium of the biological targets of the top 100 drugs.

Description:

A recent article (Fixing the Drugs Pipeline, The Economist March 11 2004) indicated that the 100 best selling target 43 gene products. However there does not appear to be a resource where compiled target information is readily available in a single source. The intention is to provide a resource containing the following information on commercially important drug targets: type of target (enzyme, receptor etc); brief description of relevance to disease treated; reference to knockout information, if available; reference to structural information, if available; listing of the marketed drugs that interact with the target along with potency and relevant selectivity information.

Progress:
Dec 2006: project terminated - the project has been pre-empted by the publication of the DrugBank database, carrying all the information on Molecular Targets for Drugs.
