Chemical Industry & IUPAC - Workshop 4 in the Great Lakes Area

Project No.:2011-053-1-022
Start date:2011-11-01
End date:0000-00-00
Division:Committee on Chemistry and Industry
Objective:

This workshop is the fourth one after those held successfully in Marl, Germany on April 24th and 25th, 2008, and Kawasaki, Japan April 7th and 8th, 2009, and on a smaller scale in Kuwait in 2010, March 9th.

Aims are to improve communications among chemical industries, chemical societies/NAOs and IUPAC through COCI, here especially, increase the network and cooperation in Canada and the northern US.

Description:

Although IUPAC occupies a unique and highly esteemed position at the center of the world of chemistry, more communication and understanding is needed. It is desirable for IUPAC to strengthen its relationship with chemical industries and absorb more suggestions from them for future activities.

This workshop will be organized as the fourth one, focusing on the Great Lakes Area in North America, where many chemical companies are situated. It will improve communications not only between chemical industries and IUPAC, but also among industries in the value chain as well as chemical societies/NAOs and governments.

The major subjects will be COCI-IUPAC activities including the contribution to Rio-20, the safety training programs, activities of chemical societies/NAOs in the area, and desirable forms of interactions between industries and IUPAC.
