Priority Claims Elements 110-112
| Project No.: | 220-31-98 |
| Start date: | 1998-01-01 |
| End date: | 2001-12-31 |
| Division: | Inorganic Chemistry Division |
Objective:
The IUPAC/IUPAP Joint Working Party is charged with examining the priority claims for elements 110, 111 and 112 ultimately leading to a Report of recommendations suitable for publication.
Description:
No description available.
Progress:
- Documentation submitted via Professor Leigh hasbeen thoroughly studied by the Working Party. Contact among the WorkingParty members has been mostly by electronic mail, although Nakaharaand Karol were able to arrange to meet for several hours in Pittsburghfor a worthwhile debate. The recommendations are being drafted bythe Chair for distribution among and input revisions from the members. These recommendations are governed by the previous criteria establishedand by application of discovery profile formats used by the 101-109Transfermium Working Group to 110-112. Only very limited inputfrom the Russian laboratory at Dubna has been secured.
- In August 2000, a report to the Commission II.2 indicated that inaccordance with the criteriafor the discovery of elements, previously established (Pure Appl.Chem. 63(6), pp. 879-886, 1991), the WP was able to attributethe discovery of element 110 to the GSI at Darmstadt. Conclusive discoveryof elements 111 and 112 had not yet been established by the WP. >see II.2minutes
- Project completed - IUPAC Technical Report entitled 'On thediscovery of the elements 110-112' is published in PureAppl. Chem.73(6), pp. 959-967, 2001.
- A later report 'On the Claims for Discovery of Elements 110, 111,112, 114, 116, and 118' is published in PureAppl. Chem.75(10), pp. 1601-1611, 2003.
