Recycling of Polymers

Project No.:401-1-93
Start date:1993-01-01
End date:1996-12-31
Division:
Objective:

Because the subject of recycling of polymers generates, in so many countries, public discussions that are sometimes based on less-than-reliable information, the Macromolecular Division has established a working party on this important subject. The working party, consisting of experts from five countries, has met on three occasions and is now in the last stages of producing the first draft of a report that will describe the current state of knowledge on recycling of polymers, and assess the merit of various approaches, based primarily on thermodynamic and technological considerations. It is hoped that this report, when published after review, will serve as an authoritative source of information for the public, including legislators. The CHEMRAWN Committee has been kept informed of these activities, which have also been given support by national bodies for the attendance of individuals at meetings of the Working Party.

Description:

Progress:
Project Completed - The working party presented its final reportat the IUPAC MMD meeting in Geneva, August 1997. The recommendationswere unanimously approved, so that this working party has accomplishedits assigned task. Publication is part of the Proceedings of the PragueMicrosymposium on Polymer Recycling 1997. It is also published as MacromolecularSymposia Vol. 135, Dec. 1998, 38th Microsymposium on Recyclingof Polymers Prague, Czech Republic, July 14-17, 1997. Symposium Editor:J. Kahovec
