Electrochemistry since Volta

Because of the 200 Anniversary for Volta in 1999, there is the unique opportunity to celebrate the birth of electrochemistry (that is dated right back to the Volta's "pile"). A historical survey of the milestones in electrochemistry, to be found both in the IUPAC recommendations and in older documents, will be prepared. A brief preface on Volta's scientific life will precede the main survey. The document will illustrate the development of the general understanding of electrochemical issues over the years. It is suggested to publish the document in PAC as an opening article. A brief summary will be prepared for Chemistry International.
