Project Details:

Biogeochemistry of iron Series: Analytical and physical chemistry of environmental systems

Project No.:610-71-97
Start date:1997-01-01
End date:2001-12-31
Division:Chemistry and the Environment Division
Objective:

The goal of this project is to review critically the current state of knowledge of the biogeochemistry of iron in seawater. It will cover chemical speciation, analytical techniques, transformation between different forms of iron, fluxes and distribution of iron, bioavailability of iron and also the evidence for iron limitation of primary production in High Nutrient Low Chlorophyll (HNLC) areas of the ocean. It also undertakes identification of priorities for future research in the areas mentioned. The programme requires forging links between scientists working on iron chemistry in seawater (mainly SCOR-affiliated) and in other aquatic environments (mainly IUPAC-affiliated)
