Project Details:

Workshop on Measurement Techniques in Atmospheric Chemistry

Project No.:620-21-95
Start date:1995-01-01
End date:1996-12-31
Division:Chemistry and the Environment Division
Objective:

There is a great demand for technical training in atmospheric measurement techniques in developing countries for global scale purposes. The "Evaluation and Harmonization of Current Tropospheric Sampling Networks", carried out by the Atm. Chem. Committee indicated this need. Contacts of WHO/GAW Program with the Coordinators of the project emphasized the urgent necessity and difficulties involved with proper training of dev. country technicians. On a regional and local basis both gov. demands and its compliance by enterprises have involved high costs but unreliable data and thus poor environmental management. The purpose of this Workshop will be to train scientists and tech. of Latin America from gov. agencies, enterprises, consulting firms and univ. on updated tech. for atmos. measurements. Special emphasis will be given to low cost/benefit techniques such as passive samplers, an ongoing program on good lab. practices and on qual.assur./qual. control programs.
