In the field of Clinical Molecular Biology different laboratories use different reporting conventions, with a consequent risk of misunderstanding by users of the service. There is a need for a standard systematic way of reporting the results of observations, which should as far as possible follow the principles of nomenclature already established in other clinical sciences.

Progress:

A 3rd version of the manuscript "Properties and Units in ClinicalMolecular Biology" was fully revised during the Berlin meeting (Aug99). As a proposal accepted during the meeting it was reallocatedas part XVIII of Project 710/18/87 - Properties and Units in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences, andit is now with Prof. Dr. Henrik Olesen who will do the last revisionand attribute the NPU codes for the properties listed. The finalreport should be ready for publication by the next meeting of IUPAC-IFCCCNPU.
