Abstract: An overview of the synthesis, physical properties, and use as material for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) of linear organic π-conjugated systems incorporating phosphole and thiophene rings is presented.

Keywords: Conjugated systems; electropolymerization; HOMO-LUMO gap; optoelectronics; phospholes.
