Objective

A survey of approximately 15 internationally eminent ceramists will result in a set of descriptions and recommendations for areas of basic chemical research which offer particularly high potential for advancing understanding of the preparation and properties of high technology ceramics. The purpose of the project is to interest solid state chemists in devoting their knowledge and techniques to the solution of significant problems of modern industrial ceramics.

Progress

The coordinator has written to about 20 scientists concerning scope and participation. An initial skeleton draft has been prepared based upon this input. This will be revised with additional input from Commission members and external contributors.
See progress report in the Minutes of the Commission Meeting in Ljubljana, Slovenia, 12-13 June 1998 - Chem. Int. 21(2), 54-57 (1999).
The manuscript, completed by R. Metselaar, K.E. Spear, ang G.M. Rosenblatt, has been submitted to the IUPAC Secretariat.

Project Completed - Technical Report published in Pure Appl. Chem., 72(8), 1425-1448 (2000) entitled: 'Chemical research needed to improve high-temperature processing of advanced ceramic materials'.
