Project: Phane Nomenclature, Part II

Number: 310/26/98
Start: 01 January 1998
End: 31 December 2002
Project of

Objective

Cyclophanes and linear phanes serve as parent hydrides. Principles and rules will be recommended to deal with indicated hydrogen(s), suffixes, prefixes, and modification of the state of hydrogenation. The scope and limitations of Phane Nomenclature will be defined in relation with other types of nomenclature, such as fusion nomenclature and the von Baeyer system for naming polycyclic compounds.

Progress
  • For Part I: Phane Parent names, see Project 310/4/81
  • Phane Nomenclature - Part II includes indicated hydrogen atoms, suffixes, prefixes and modifications to the degree of hydrogenation.
  • The second part of Project will be included in the Book in preparation on P-names: Phane Nomenclature in relation with Fusion Nomenclature and von Baeyer Nomenclature. The Book will be ready for public review at the beginning of 2001.
  • A final document is submitted to public review comments until 31 January 2002 > see provisional recommendations
  • Project completed - IUPAC Recommendations 2002 published in Pure Appl. Chem. 74(4), 809-834, 2002.
