The rapid growth of sol-gel processing in both basic and applied sciences has resulted in a need for consistent terminology. The development of sol-gel technology by a wide variety of industries has led to a diverse and inconsistent use of definitions. A wide range of interests needs to be covered in this area. Hence, a joint project between the Commission on High Temperature and Solid State Chemistry and the Commission on Macromolecular Nomenclature is required.
See progress report in the Minutes of the Commission II.3 Meeting in Ljubljana, Slovenia, 12-13 June 1998 - Chem. Int. 21(2), 54-57 (1999)
The project has been restructured under R.G. Jones's initiative. The Feasibility Study on Polymer Gels and Networks has been integrated into the project and the membership of the Working Party strengthened. The designation of the project has a Pool Project is now terminating and the project will be launched as new under the coordination of R.G. Jones, with A. Chadwick of Commission II.3 involved (replacing D. Holland).
