Objective

Definitions related to quality assurance, quality control, reference materials, analytical chemistry, related statistics, etc., are spread over IUPAC publications, number of ISO standards and guides, documents of other international organizations (WHO, EURACHEM, etc.). The objective of this project is to prepare an index which lists terms alphabetically and indicates in which source document(s) the definition(s) of the term can be found, if indeed definition(s) exist. Related activities: Compilation to be published in an appropriate international journal (e.g. Journal for Accreditation and Quality Assurance) to be internationally reviewed and elaborated. After having this compilation in hand it would be possible for the IUPAC to propose the most appropriate term(s) to be generally used taking into account expected future changes of definitions of VIM (International Vocabulary of Basic and General Terms in Metrology).

Progress
Project Completed - The result of the project is a compilation of approximately 1400 terms from 18 literature sources - mainly standards, in alphabetical order with identification of the source where the term can be found as well as an indication whether the definition of the same term in different sources is the same or not. Compilation entitled : 'Terminology and definitons: Alphabetical index of defined terms and where they can be found Part I, II and III' are published in the journal Accreditation and Quality Assurance in three parts:

Compilation might be used as a source of information also at the discussion on the revision of VIM (Vocabulary on Basic and General Terms in Metrology). This work was completely carried out by D. Holcombe, LGC UK.
