The number of developed hyphenated techniques combining sample treatment procedures, chromatographic or other separation systems, and spectrochemical and mass spectrometric analysis methods has generated a bewildering proliferation of acronyms and competing claims of technological superiority. This project seeks to clarify the definitions of terms used and to critically assess these hyphenated technologies according to specific applications.
