Project: Critical Assessment of Chemiluminescence and Bioluminescence Methods

Number: 540/23/97
Start: 01 January 1997
End: 31 December 1999
Project of
Objective

Chemiluminescence (CL) refers to emission from excited molecules generated as products of a chemical reaction. If this reaction is derived from biological organisms such as bacteria, fungi, and insects, the luminescence is called bioluminescence (BL). The dynamic field of CL and BL is experiencing considerable growth due to the advent of new instrumentation, sensitive detection methods, and efficient automation technology. A critical assessment of these methodologies according to established quality assurance standards will allow intelligent and accurate comparisons. This project will evaluate present methodologies according to existing standards. Specific technology recommendations will be made for a variety of applications.
