Abstract: The biotransformation of triptonide by cell
suspension cultures of Platycodon grandiflorum was investigated.
After six days of incubation, five products were obtained. On the basis
of chemical and spectral evidence, their structures were elucidated
as epitriptolide-14-O-b-D-glucoside,
5a-hydroxytriptonide, triptolide, triptodiolide,
and 2b-hydroxytriptonide, among which epitriptolide-14-O-b-D-glucoside
and 5a-hydroxytriptonide are new compounds.
